This problem started suddenly while i was driving uphill. Engine lost power, i had to pull over. Let it sit for about 1-2 min. and than start it. Still misfired, and check engine light was blinking as i accelerated. Also, when i got the car (2 weeks ago), was very low on oil, i mean low. I poured in 6 quarts and it is barely on minimum.
In addition, some cars need valve seals replaced, and some experience rear differential failure. We bought our 2008 X5 4.8 in 2011 with 38k miles. It now has 95k and has experienced all of the above except valve seals. If your friend isn't willing / able to do his own work these things can get outrageously expensive.
2007 BMW X5 3.0si Problem: Car cranks but will not turn over in cool cold or rainy weather. After trying a few times sometimes 1-2, sometimes 9-10, the car will finally start. A couple times I've had it completely not start at all. What's been inspected (as far as I know): Fuel pump Starter Battery Fuel pump wiring kit Issues found and resolved:
07 X5 - Rear Differential failure. Well you can you add me to the list of failed differentials. With just 84,000 miles my rear differential has failed. I started having a slight vibration/shake from the rear, most noticeable at 30 MPH. At first I thought it was a broken tire belt. I tried to ignore it, thinking it was a tire problem.

Overall Reliability. We expect the 2024 X5 will be much more reliable than the average new car. This prediction is based on the 2022, 2023, and limited 2024 models. The 2007 BMW X5 has been
Here's Why BMW’s N63 4.4-liter V8 Engines Fail. Last year, we wrote a story about BMW’s N63 engines being a pain in the butt to run over a certain mileage. Back then, our info came from a BMW
Delete and tune gives HUGE increase in performance and reliability by removing all the emissions junk. Other than that, the common problem on the M57 diesel motor is the thermostat failing- if you notice a drop in mpg's, the thermostat probably failed open, causing the motor to run cold, and therefor rich.
The simplest fix would be to change the charging parameter to have the alternator start to charge the battery at a higher level, but BMW has to keep the alternator use to a minimum to help meet federal fuel guidelines and they do not want to have lower the MPG ratings on the X5. Instead, they have now reduced the awake time from 30 min to 20 min.
