If the inverted controls give you difficulty, use the D-pad instead of the analog stick. The D-pad won't be inverted and for many people including me it's much more intuitive that way. If you hold the jump button, you can move around a lot faster. This will make dodging easier. DMC1 and DMC4 aren't mid imo, but they are not mind-blowing like 3 and 5.
